Christmas at the Bruce, Choirs Unite for Community Event

Something special is happening in Hopkinsville this weekend. Three Worship Pastors, in particular, are saying you don’t want to miss this one.
This Sunday, December 11 at 5 pm, worshippers from numerous churches around Christian county will come together to present a special community-wide Christmas Night of Worship. The event will take place at the Bruce Convention Center. Though the service will begin at 6 pm, free cookies and hot cocoa will be enjoyed at 5 pm. All are invited to attend. Admission is free.
Pastor Tom Drake, of Living Hope Baptist Church, has been a key player in preparation for the event. Drake claims this will be the perfect event for families to celebrate the season.
“It is definitely going to be a family event,” says Drake. “It will be a family night set to music to sing about the birth of our Savior. We invite the community to come together and celebrate Christ’s birth through music.”
Another key organizer for this event is Worship Pastor Kaleb Bales, of Edgewood Baptist Church. Bales says he is thrilled to take part in this event.
“I am excited to see the fellowship between the churches, as we worship the Lord together in unity. That is the purpose of the event: to worship Jesus, and to enjoy the unity the Lord has given us as brothers and sisters in Christ.”
Bales went on to share with Hillcrest staff that he is most excited about the cookies and cocoa fellowship that will take place at 5 pm at the Bruce, and hopes that all participants will get there early to enjoy the tasty treats.
“The real treat will be the fellowship time at 5 pm! The cookies and cocoa are just an added bonus!” shares Pastor JT, of Hillcrest Baptist Church. “I love how we are able to come together and enjoy each other—not worried about to which congregational fellowship we belong; instead, just coming together as family. After all, that is what we are as faith-siblings. I think Jesus is going to be so honored by this! I can’t wait!” White says.
Though the three pastors have worked as a triad to lead the group, members from several Christian County Baptist churches across Hopkinsville have been working for months to present these stellar harmonies of praise for the Lord.
“Each song will be for the Lord and His adoration” White says. “The community will be so blessed to listen in on each tune! Maybe the community will even jump in and sing along on a couple of the songs.”

Morris Gears Up for Auction, Bid for a Cause

Earlier this morning, Beth Morris and her granddaughter, Boston, began working to prepare items for the Lottie Moon Christmas Auction. The fundraising event, facilitated by Hillcrest, takes place on Sunday, December 4. The meal portion of the event will begin at 5 pm, and the auction itself will begin at 6 pm. The auction will take place in Hillcrest’s church fellowship hall.
Morris, the coordinator for this event, says the International Mission Board (IMB) is Hillcrest’s way of sending missionaries all around the world to share the good news of Jesus. Morris says Boston helped her grandmother all morning with baking for a cause, and they had a blast! Some items the two made up together were: pumpkin bread, gingersnap cookies, chocolate covered peanuts, meringue pies, no-bake cookies, banana bread and more.
Morris also thought it could be a really great idea to make hand-crafted items like Christmas decorations to auction off at Sunday’s event. “The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering” Morris says, “is one way that we financially support those missionaries sent out by the IMB. We encourage you to consider making handmade craft items, homemade jarred food items, baked goods, and more. These items will be auctioned off to the crowd at 6 pm. With that being said, this fundraiser can be a lot of fun, so be sure to stick around for the auction portion of the fundraiser, after you enjoy the meal at 5 pm.”
You may bring donated items early and leave at the Connect Desk in the Hillcrest lobby, the church office, or you may simply bring the items with you when you arrive at the event on December 4.
The meal provided this year will be taco soup and grilled cheese sandwiches.

Lottie Moon Christmas Post Office Open for Operation

Staff of Hillcrest Baptist Church met with church member Terri Parker early Tuesday afternoon to discuss an exciting mission opportunity for believers in the Hillcrest community. It is called the Lottie Moon Christmas Post Office. Parker and her team are inviting everyone in the faith community to participate.
“The idea is to donate [to the Lottie Moon Offering] the amount it would cost in postage to send Christmas cards, but you may make a donation in any amount you desire,” Parker mentioned. “We accept cash or checks. Checks may be made out to Hillcrest Baptist Church. If you want a record of your gift, use one of the Lottie Moon envelopes located at the Connect Desk.”
The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering–the effort for which the postcard project is supporting–is an annual offering that takes places at all Southern Baptist Churches across the nation. All donations from this offering go to support foreign missionaries around the world.
Many of these missionaries live in hostile or unsafe environments and live among people who have never heard the good news of Jesus Christ. All of the missionaries have sacrificially relocated their families to a location that is inconvenient, according to God’s leading upon their lives. They labor in the field to evangelize with the lost and make disciples who make disciples. They build God’s kingdom here on the earth, among people of the uttermost parts of it.
Parker says that from December 4 through January 1, the Post Office will be open for operation. All cards must have the FIRST and LAST names. People are able to pick up their cards at any of the posted times of operation (see below).
“Please remember,” Parker adds, “just because you don’t send cards doesn’t mean your friend won’t send them to you! Please come by and check for your mail!”

- Hours of Operation: open before and after each service (services are at 9 am and 10:30 am on Sundays) | more specifically, Sundays at 8 am to 8:45 am, 10:00 to 10:15, and 12 noon to 12:30 pm
- Location: located in the church lobby outside the Worship Center. Look for the big red mailbox! The room beside it is where the “postman workers” are sorting and distributing your letters.

We are excited to announce that Hillcrest is now offering our church integration into the Bible app. Click here to be taken there. Within the Bible app, list Hillcrest as your church under the “my church” feature. By doing this, you will be able to view upcoming services and events, service and bible study times, and more. You will also be notified of any Bible study or reading plan we recommend.
The YouVersion Bible App, started by Pastor Bobby Gruenewald of Life Church in Oklahoma, has become a popular method of Bible reading over the last decade. Almost everyone has the Bible app downloaded on their phone, and many individuals leave their hard copy Bible behind when attending worship services and Bible studies; they choose to use only their phone or tablet with the Bible app on it.
Though we recommend bringing a hard-copy Bible with you to worship, the Bible app can really come in handy sometimes. A hard-copy, tangible Bible can keep you accountable to stay in the Word, allows you to take written annotations and can leave you with a sense of chronology. Using a hard-copy Bible can challenge you to memorize the order of the canon, since you’re only other alternative would be to look up page numbers to follow along–and that’s never convenient. A tangible Bible can challenge you and keep you in the Word. Convenience is not always best.
But, there is a time for convenience! Depending on how you function, a digital experience like this one may motivate you and challenge you to grow in your walk with Jesus. And the Bible App provides such a wonderful service we’d love for you to consider. In our modern, technological world, softwares and systems like this gem are not often free. Within the Bible app, you can digitally highlight and make personalized notes, try out Bible study plans, digitally ascribe your ever-changing prayer list and more. The social aspect of the app allows users to share their favorite scripture text or highlighted verses. There is also a privacy feature to turn off the social capabilities, if preferred.
We pray this new feature can motivate you to stay plugged into the Word of God, grow in your walk with Jesus, and keep involved at your local church.

Hillcrest to Be New Operation Christmas Child Drop-Off Location

Members of Hillcrest are getting excited about a special week of ministry. On Monday, November 14 through Monday, November 21, Hillcrest will open its doors to the community and function as a regional drop-off location for the Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Shoebox Collection called “Operation Christmas Child.” Churches from all over the county and beyond are welcomed to travel to Hillcrest to deliver their shoeboxes.
Marqueta Scott, the event coordinator, led a team meeting Sunday afternoon to provide training and instruction for the event. Dozens of volunteers attended the meeting and prepared for the week to come. “We are really excited about serving as a drop-off location for Operation Christmas Child,” Scott said Sunday afternoon.
“As a regional drop-off location, we get to be some of the first people to pray over and prepare the boxes that are donated, before they are sent out on their global journey.”
Scott shared that this mission week is one opportunity that gets the word out all over the world. Believers can come and serve with global impact and eternal purpose, and not even leave Christian County. “Children all over the world will receive the boxes and learn about the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are so excited to play a part in that.”
Hillcrest is encouraging more members to join in and serve. Though thrilled to share how several people are already signed up to serve, Scott says there is still room for more people to jump in and serve this week. There are specific times each day that the drop-off location is open for service. Scott says there is no need to sign up or call the office at this point, although they can. “Just show up and jump in,” she says.
Please consider praying over this mission project week. Pray for God’s anointing over each box, safety for the boxes as they travel, and that God will use each box to reach each child with the gospel of Jesus.

As Southern Baptists, the International Mission Board (IMB) is our way of sending missionaries all around the world to share the gospel with people who have never heard of or have never received Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering is one way that we financially support those missionaries sent out by the IMB.
